Pupil Premium Reporting to Parents

The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is funding allocated to schools by the Government for children in school considered to be from deprived backgrounds, who are eligible for Free School Meals together with pupils who have been registered as Looked After and whose parent(s) is/are currently in the armed forces.  Funding is provided to ensure that schools are able to support these pupils in achieving their full potential. The government does not state how the grant should be spent but it is expected that the school will use the funding to employ strategies that will decrease the difference in attainment between those pupils who are considered deprived and those who are not.  School is accountable for this allocation of resources and must demonstrate that pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium achieve well compared to other pupils.


All our work through the pupil premium will be aimed at accelerating progress moving children to at least age related expectations. Initially this will be in Literacy and Numeracy and through enabling full participation in the life of the school



Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) Allocation for 2017/18 is: £12020. This funding is aimed at breaking down the barriers to learning that some of our children may face.

What do we mean by 'barriers to learning?'

When we make decisions regarding the use of Pupil Premium funding it is important that we think carefully about the challenges faced by our pupils. Pupils can experience many barriers to their learning and that these barriers are sometimes long ranging and can vary from child to child and from year to year. We believe that it is vital that these barriers are identified and addressed in order for our pupils to achieve their maximum potential.  Typical barriers may include:


  • attendance issues
  • lack of support at home
  • low levels of aspiration
  • weak language and communication skills
  • behavioural and emotional difficulties
  • low confidence and self-esteem
  • lack of resources to support home learning
  • social problems
  • a narrow range of experiences and opportunities



The Governors have targeted the PPG to:

1. Provide support for pupils with specific difficulties

2. Provide targeted intervention work

3. Run springboard programmes

4. Provide additional phonics support

5. Support for extra-curricular activities and trips to enhance self-esteem and confidence

6. Provide P.E. and swimming kit
